No. 22 IU Southeast Defeats Indiana Wesleyan 5-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The IU Southeast baseball team was back in action on Tuesday and jumped out to a 5-0 lead before defeating Indiana Wesleyan 5-2.

The Grenadiers (2-0) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-out rally. Marco Romero walked and Brody Tanskley followed with a single, Romero advanced to third. Jake Scott followed with a RBI single to right to bring Romero home.

In the bottom of the second, the Grenadiers added to their lead. Derek Wagner led off with a single and Daunte Decello came through with a one-out single to move Wagner to third. Clay Woeste reached base on a fielder's choice when he grounded to second and Decello was forced out but he broke up the double play chance. Wagner came in to score.

The Grenadiers added a pair of runs in the third when Jake Scott recorded another RBI single after a walk to Tanksley and a wild pitch put a runner in scoring position. Scott advanced to second on a Trevor MacDonald single and stole third on a double steal with MacDonald. Derek Wagner followed with a RBI groundout to short.

In the bottom of the fifth, Romero drew another walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. He moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jake Scott for his third RBI of the day.

The Wildcats (0-2) got on the board in the top of the seventh when they opened the inning with three-straight singles to load the bases. Pinch hitter Jordan Wharton had a RBI groundout to third. A fielder's choice brought in the second run off the bat of Nick Coy, but Bryce Grinder was tagged out moving to third for the second out. Trevor Reynolds got out of the jam with a popout to short.

Jacob Frankel shut the door in the nninth inning by striking out two of the three batters he faced for his first save. Hunter Kloke got his first win of the year by working four scoresless innings and allowing one hit and two walks while striking out four. He did not allow a hit until the fourth inning.

Jake Scott was 2-for-2 with three RBI in the win.
