Grenadiers Sweep Doubleheader Against WVU Tech on Saturday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The IU Southeast baseball team finished their road trip off with a doubleheader win over WVU Tech on Saturday. The Grenadiers won game one 7-6 and game two 7-0.

IU Southeast scored first in game one. Trevor Goodwin singled through the right side to drive home Kody Putnam and give the Grenadiers a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. A Mason White double in the top of the third scored Trevor Campbell and gave IU Southeast a 2-0 advantage.

WVU Tech took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the third on a bases clearing double and an RBI single. Blake Cook came through with an RBI single in the top of the fourth to score Brayden Hazelwood, narrowing the IU Southeast deficit to 4-3.

Mason White launched a two-run home run to center field in the top of the fifth inning to give IU Southeast a 5-4 lead. Trevor Goodwin singled home Kody Putnam once more to extend the Grenadier advantage to 6-4. A Trevor Campbell sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth made it 7-4.

A fielder's choice RBI by WVU Tech made it 7-5 in the sixth inning, and an RBI groundout narrowed the deficit to 7-6 in the seventh. Neither team would score in the final two innings as IU Southeast secured a 7-6 win in game one.

Luke Schafer picked up the win for IU Southeast, throwing 5.1 innings. The trio of Zak Rasener, Gavin Knust, and Conner Fries finished the sixth and seventh innings. Luke McLaughlin got two outs to start the eighth, and Garrett Hill came in to strike out three batters in 1.1 innings to pick up the save.

Trevor Campbell, Mason White, Kody Putnam, Trevor Goodwin, and Blake Cook all had two hits apiece. Mason White led the Grenadiers with three RBIs. Trevor Goodwin drove in two runs, and Trevor Campbell and Blake Cook each drove in one.

IU Southeast was on the board first in game two as Slater Schield singled in the top of the second to score Brayden Hazelwood, giving IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.

Slater Schield came through for IU Southeast once again, doubling in the top of the fourth to drive home Blake Cook and double the Grenadier lead to 2-0. In the same inning, Mason White launched his second home run of the day to extend the lead to 5-0.

Trevor Campbell doubled down the right field line in the top of the sixth, scoring Slater Schield and Blake Cook to make it 7-0 IU Southeast. IU Southeast would go on to win game two 7-0.

Tyler Yotkewich threw a complete game shutout in game two, striking out six in seven innings of work. Slater Schield led IU Southeast with two hits and drove in two runs. Mason White drove in a team-high three runs, and Trevor Campbell drove in two.

IU Southeast moves to 24-15 overall and 15-6 in RSC play. The Grenadiers return to action at home on Tuesday against Campbellsville (KY).
