No. 22 IU Southeast Splits Doubleheader With No. 25 Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The No. 22-ranked IU Southeast baseball team dropped its first game of the season Wednesday 6-5 on a walk-off home run before bouncing back with a 9-5 win in game two of the doubleheader vs No. 25 Campbellsville.

In game one, IU Southeast fell behind 2-1 entering the top of the sixth inning. IU Southeast (13-1) tied the game when Jake Scott hit a solo home run, his second of the year.

But the Tigers (12-6) answered with a three-run bottom of the inning. Adbiel Morales hit a two-run single to retake the lead and Jorge Ortiz drew a bases-loaded walk.

The Grenadiers answered right back to force extra innings. Tyler Mills led off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. Then John Ullom doubled to center to score Trevor MacDonald. A RBI groundout by Daunte Decello tied the game.

The Tigers were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh and IU Southeast was able to get Austin Wise into scoring position at second with two outs in the eight but Mills flied out to end the threat.

Adbiel Morales led off the eight with a walk-off home run to end the contest. Clay Woeste and Brody Tanksley each had two hits in the loss.

Game two was all IU Southeast early as the Grenadiers led 6-0 after four and a half innings. They struck for a pair of runs in the third when Tanksley hit a two-run home run and added another run in the fourth when Decello singled to left to score Mills.

The Grenadiers put the game away with three runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Scott scored on a passed ball and Decello tripled to bring in Mills and Wise.

In the sixth, Tanksley and Berenda each had RBI singles and Tyler Mills struck out on a dropped third strike which got away and Tanksley scored.

Lane Oesterling worked four and two-thirds for his first win in his first start of the season. He allowed two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out three.

Brody Tanksley and Daunte Decello each had two hits and drove in three in the contest.

IU Southeast returns to conference play Friday and Saturday when they host Ohio Christian.
