Grenadiers Split Doubleheader Against Northwestern Ohio on Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The IU Southeast baseball team split a doubleheader against the University of Northwestern Ohio at the St. Matthews Baseball Complex on Sunday.

The Grenadiers struck first in game one. Brayden Hazelwood tripled to open the bottom of the first. After a walk by Trevor Campbell, Mason White singled through the right side to give IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.

Northwestern Ohio tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second with an RBI groundout. Trevor Campbell hit a home run to center field in the bottom of the third to give IU Southeast a 2-1 advantage.

An RBI double followed by a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning gave the Racers a 4-2 lead. In the bottom half of the fifth, Mason White hit a two-run home run of his own to tie the game at 4-4.

In the bottom of the sixth, Trevor Campbell unloaded the bases with a 3-RBI triple to put the Grenadiers back in front 7-4. Northwestern Ohio, down to their last three outs, tied the game with a three-run home run to send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the ninth, Northwestern Ohio hit another home run to take an 8-7 lead. The Grenadiers were unable to score in the bottom half of the ninth, giving the Racers an 8-7 win.

Trevor Campbell and Mason White combined to drive in all seven runs in game one for IU Southeast.

Game two saw IU Southeast jump out in front early. With two runners on, Blake Cook hit a ball that bounced off the second baseman's glove and into right field to give the Grenadiers a 1-0 lead in the first.

Northwestern Ohio tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third on an RBI groundout. The Racers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a ball that went through the legs of the second baseman.

IU Southeast tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI walk by Ben Berenda. The Grenadiers took a 3-2 lead on a wild pitch.

Brayden Hazelwood gave IU Southeast a 4-2 lead on an RBI double in the sixth. Trevor Campbell followed with an RBI double. A 2-RBI single by Kody Putnam extended the lead to 7-2, which is the score IU Southeast went on to win by.

Tyler Yotkewich, Brendan Koester, Oscar Welsh, Zak Rasener and Drew Switzer combined to throw seven innings of 5-hit, two-run (one earned) ball. Mason White had three hits in game two, and Kody Putnam had two hits and two RBIs.
