Grenadiers Sweep Doubleheader Against Alice Lloyd on Sunday

LOUISVILLE - The IU Southeast baseball team swept a doubleheader against Alice Lloyd on Sunday. The Grenadiers won game one 7-2 and game two 18-0.

Alice Lloyd scored first in game one, taking a 1-0 lead on a bases loaded walk. The Grenadiers responded in the bottom of the first. Mason White tripled and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 1-1.

Alice Lloyd took a 2-1 lead on a fielder's choice in the top of the fourth. Ben Berenda tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single through the right side of the infield. Blake Cook followed with a two-run home run to left center field to give IU Southeast a 4-2 lead.

Kody Putnam singled through the left side in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Mason White to give IU Southeast a 5-2 lead. In the seventh, Kody Putnam drove in Slater Shield with a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 6-2 IU Southeast. Trevor Goodwin hit a home run to left center in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-2 IU Southeast, which would go on to be the final score.

Lane Oesterling picked up his second win of the season for IU Southeast, giving up only two runs in six innings. Zach Gutermuth threw a scoreless inning, and Garrett Hill closed the game with two scoreless innings for the Grenadiers.

Mason White finished the game a home run short of the cycle, finishing 3-3 with a walk. Kody Putnam and Blake Cook each drove in two runs, and Ben Berenda and Trevor Goodwin had one RBI apiece.

IU Southeast won the second game 18-0 in the scheduled seven-inning contest. The Grenadiers scored five runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth, and eight runs in the sixth.

Ryan Kassel hit a solo home run to left center, his second of the season. Austin Griffin hit the first home run of his Grenadier career; a three-run shot down the left field line in the sixth. Trevor Campbell, Brayden Hazelwood, Kody Putnam and Slater Schield all had a double for IU Southeast. Alex Yurt and Ryan Kassel each had a triple.

Slater Schield had three hits in game two, driving in two runs. Ryan Kassel went 3-3, finishing a double short of the cycle. Brayden Hazelwood entered the game in the top of the fifth and led IU Southeast with four RBIs. 11 Grenadiers recorded a hit, and 10 different Grenadiers drove in a run.

Tyler Yotkewich threw six scoreless innings, striking out eight batters. Bryce Trail threw an immaculate inning in the top of the seventh to close the game.

IU Southeast moved to 13-13 on the season and 8-4 in RSC play. The Grenadiers travel to Georgetown College on Monday.
