Offense Sends IU Southeast Past Lindsey Wilson 19-8
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Three Grenadiers hit home runs and IU Southeast scored 19 runs on 13 hits en route to a 19-8 win over Lindsey Wilson in seven innings on Wednesday.
Alex Yurt opened the scoring with a leadoff home run to right in the bottom of the first, his first of the season.
In the bottom of the second, Trevor Campbell drove in a run on a fielder's choice and then Mason White hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4-0,
The Grenadiers blew the game open with a nine-run third inning. Slater Schield and Alex Yurt each had RBI singles after Trevor Goodwin reached on a error to drive in a run.
Trevor Campbell followed with a two-run triple, and White drove in Campbell with a double. A two-run single by Brayden Hazelwood extened the lead to 12-0 and Garrett Jones scored on a wild pitch to make It 13-0.
The Blue Raiders chipped away with three runs in the fourth inning but Ryan Kassel responded with a two-run home run to left in the fifth inning.
Lindsey Wilson used a five-run sixth inning to try and mount a comeback. The Grenadiers allowed five hits and committed two errors in the inning.
In the sixth, Ben Berenda drove in a pair with a double down the right-field line that scored Trevor Campbell and Kody Putnman, who had both walked.
Ryan Kassel came through again with a RBI single to score Austin Griffin which pushed the lead back to 10 runs.
Garrett Jones capped off the rally by drawing a bases-loaded walk.
Drew Switzer worked four shutout innings for his first win. He allowed three runs, all unearned, on six hits while walking two.
Zach Gutermuth worked a scoreless seventh inning to shut the door. He allowed two hits and struck out a batter.
Alex Yurt finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI and Mason White, Trevor Campbell and Ryan Kassell all drove in three in the win.
IU Southeast hosts Oakland City Thursday at 5 p.m.
