Oesterling Shuts Down Golden Bears As IU Southeast Wins 11-1 Friday
CHARLESTON, West Virginia – Lane Oesterling threw a complete-game gem and Trevor Campbell drove in five runs as IU Southeast opened a three-game series at West Virginia Tech with an 11-1 win.
After the Golden Bears opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, the Grenadiers took the lead in the top of the third.
Back-to-back walks started the rally and Campbell drove in both runners with a double to right-center.
In the fourth, Trevor Goodwin added to the IU Southeast lead when he doubled to left to score Garrett Jones. Brayden Hazelwood followed with a two-run home run to left, his sixth of the year which extended the lead to 5-1.
Later in the inning, Slater Schield reached on a base hit to center and stole second. Alex Yurt drew a walk and Campbell hit a three-run home run to right-center to put the game away. It was his fifth home run and 50th RBI on the year.
IU Southeast did not score again until the seventh when Ben Berenda singled to drove in Mason White, who had walked and stolen second. Then Trevor Goodwin hit a two-run home run to right, his seventh of the season.
After the second inning. Oesterling allowed just one hit. He did not walk a batter in the contest and struck out three and finished the game allowing one run on six hits.
After allowing a leadoff single in the third, Oesterling retired the next 15 batters he faced for the win.
Ben Berenda, Trevor Goodwin and Slater Schield each had two hits, Campbell drove in five and Goodwin knocked in three in the win. Brayden Hazelwood drove in a pair.
The series concludes Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader.
