Offensive Explosion Leads Grenadiers to 16-3 Victory Over Brescia on Friday

OWENSBORO, Ky. - The IU Southeast baseball team scored 16 runs on 12 hits in route to a 16-3 win in seven innings against Brescia on Friday.

The Grenadiers scored first in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Mason White in the top of the first inning.

With the bases loaded in the top of the second, Alex Yurt singled up the middle to drive in two runs and give IU Southeast a 3-0 lead. Trevor Campbell followed with a three-run home run to double the Grenadier lead to 6-0. Brescia would come back and score a run in the fourth and the fifth to cut the IU Southeast lead to 6-2.

 Trevor Goodwin scored on a passed ball in the top of the sixth to extend the Grenadier lead to 7-2. With the bases loaded later in the sixth inning, Trevor Campbell launched his second home run of the game to give IU Southeast a commanding 11-2 lead.

Mason White would come around to score on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth to make it 12-2. Trevor Goodwin drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 13-2, and Blake Cook doubled in a run to extend the Grenadier lead to 14-2. Brayden Hazelwood put the cap on the 10-run sixth inning with a two-run home run, giving IU Southeast a 16-2 advantage.

Brescia scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but IU Southeast would go on to win 16-3 in seven innings. Luke Schafer got the win for IU Southeast, giving up two runs in five innings while striking out seven. Gavin Knust pitched the sixth and Brock Hammond closed the door for the Grenadiers in the seventh.

Trevor Campbell and Mason White combined for six of IU Southeast's 12 hits. Trevor Campbell homered twice and drove in seven of IU Southeast's 16 runs. Mason White and Blake Cook both doubled twice, and Brayden Hazelwood homered in the win. Alex Yurt and Slater Schield each stole a base in the contest.

IU Southeast now sits at 28-18 overall and 18-7 in RSC play. The Grenadiers wrap up their regular season with a doubleheader at Brescia on Saturday.
