Yotkewich Throws A No-Hitter and IU Southeast Finishes In Three-Way Tie for Top Spot in RSC

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Tyler Yotkewich threw a no-hitter and IU Southeast swept Brescia 5-2 and 5-0 to finish in a three-way tie in the top of the River States Conference on Saturday.

In game one, the Grenadiers struck first in the top of the second when Kody Putnam hit a solo home run for his fifth home run of the season.

The Bearcats took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning but the lead was short-lived as IU Southeast scored a pair of runs in the third.

Kody Putnam came through with a double to left to drive in Trevor Campbell. Then a RBI groundout by Ben Berenda put the Grenadiers in front.

Mason White added to the Grenadier advantage when he doubled to center in the fifth to drive in Campbell, who had singled.

Brayden Hazelwood doubled to left-center in the ninth inning and came around to score on a single by Alex Yurt.

Lane Oesterling worked the front five innings for IU Southeat and allowed just two runs on seven hits while striking out seven.

Conner Fries worked two scoreless innings and struck out three in relief and Brandon Koester and Garrett Hill rounded out the scoreless relief appearances with Hill allowing just one hit for his sixth save.

Kody Putnam drove in a pair of runs and White, Putnam and Blake Cook each had two hits in the win.

In game two, Mason White drove in another run when he grounded out to third and Campbell scored.

Ben Berenda doubled the lead when he hit a solo home run in the fourth, his fifth of the season.

Starter Tyler Yotkewich allowed his first baserunner in the fifth when he walked Gavin Reames but shut down the Brescia offense otherwise.

A three-run seventh inning put the game away for the Grenadiers. After Campbell walked and stole second and third, Mason White hit a two-run home run to left for his 11th home run of the season.

Trevor Goodwin drove in Putnam with a base hit later in the inning.

Mason White made a leaping catch against the wall in the seventh to preserve the no-hitter and two groundouts ended the game.

Yotkewich earned his seventh win of the season and allowed just two baserunners, one on a walk and one on an error in the contest while striking out a pair.

Mason White knocked in three in the win.
