GRENADIERS OPEN SEASON WITH 94-64 WIN OVER SIMMONS COLLEGE OF KENTUCKY

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season with a convincing 94-64 win over Simmons College of Kentucky on Tuesday.

Anthony Wales Jr had 25 points to lead the Grenadiers. Jared Osborne had 22 points and seven rebounds, Caleb Brown had 12 points and Glenn Hill Jr had 10 points and five rebounds.

The Grenadiers (1-0) opened the game on a 22-6 run. Anthony Wales Jr capped off the run with a three-pointer.

Jared Osborne was the offensive spark in the opening half as he scored 20 of his 22 points in the first 20 minutes of play and knocked down 5-of-7 three-point attempts.

IU Southeast led 51-38 at halftime. The Grenadiers shot 56 percent from the field and were 9-of-14 from three-point range (67 percent).

The Falcons (0-1) cut the deficit to 51-40 to start the second half but the Grenadiers answered with a 18-5 run to pull away once again.

In the second half, Wales Jr. led the Grenadiers with 12 points.

IU Southeast shot 51 percent from the field in the game and 49 percent from three-point range which was the difference in the contest. IU Southeast held the Falcons to just 26 percent shooting from behind-the-arc (7-of-27).

The Grenadiers dominated on the glass 47-27.

The Grenadiers host No. 25 University of the Cumberlands Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
