GRENADIERS FALL TO UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS 75-68

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team dropped a close game 75-68 to the University of the Cumberlands on Wednesday.

Glenn Hill led the Grenadiers with 21 points and nine rebounds. Tamaje Blackwell added 15 points off the bench in the contest. Anthony Wales Jr had 12 points and six rebounds, and Jared Osborne added 12 points as well.  

The Grenadiers (1-1) opened with a quick 5-4 advantage, but saw the lead quickly pulled away from them after a 7-0 Cumberlands run. Trailing 23-17 in the first half, IU Southeast used a layup from Richard Lang and a jumper and layup from Osborne to tie the game. A Lang layup with 19 seconds left in the half gave the Grenadiers a 36-34 lead at halftime.

Hill and Osborne drove the Grenadier offense in the first half, scoring 26 of the team's 36 points. They were a combined 10-17 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from three-point range. Lang provided a spark off the bench in the first half, providing the Grenadiers with eight points and four rebounds in his eight minutes of action.

Cumberlands (4-0) took their first lead of the second half with 14:13 left after a Jahi Hinson layup. The two teams would continue to trade the lead until an Isaiah Payton three pointer with 2:28 left put Cumberlands up for good.

In the second half, Cumberlands shot just 31.4 percent from the field and 17.6 percent from three, but they hit 16 of their 17 second half free throws to seal the deal. Jahi Hinson added 16 of his 21 points in the second half, including going a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.

Tamaje Blackwell led the Grenadiers with 13 second half points on 5-6 shooting.

IU Southeast shot 43.1 percent from the field in the game, but were bested at the free throw line, making and attempting 10 less free throws than Cumberlands. The Grenadiers held the Patriots to just 19.4 percent shooting from behind-the-arc (6-31) and 36.5 percent from the field (23-63).

The Grenadiers travel to Hanover College on Friday.
