HANOVER DEFEATS IU SOUTHEAST 68-53
HANOVER, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell 68-53 to Hanover College in their first road game of the season on Friday.
Glenn Hill led the team in points and rebounds, posting a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds in the losing effort. Anthony Wales Jr. and Jared Osborne each scored 11 points in the contest.
The Grenadiers (1-2) found themselves in a quick 12-0 deficit in the game's first four minutes. A Caleb Brown three-point play brought the deficit to four with 4:31 left in the first half, but another 12-0 run from Hanover extended the lead to 38-22. At the half, Hanover led 38-24.
Hill led the Grenadiers with 8 points in the first half. Brown and Jathan Ritter each added five points apiece. Hanover held the Grenadiers to 32 percent from the field and 25 percent from the three-point line in the first half.
With a 43-30 advantage in the second half, Hanover used a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 56-30 with 14:07 remaining. Down 23 with 7:23 to go, IU Southeast responded with a 13-0 run of their own to shrink the deficit to 63-53 with 2:30 remaining. Wales Jr. scored 11 of the team's 13 points in that 13-0 stretch.
IU Southeast had a chance to cut it to single digits, but a three pointer by Hanover's Matt Munoz sealed the victory for the Panthers, who would go on to win 68-53.
Anthony Wales Jr and Jared Osborne scored 20 of the 29 points for the Grenadiers in the second half.
IU Southeast shot 35.5 percent from the field and 23.8 percent from the three-point arc in the game. The two teams combined for only 11 free throw attempts in the contest. Hanover shot 40 percent from the field, the three-point arc and the free throw line. The Grenadiers were outrebounded 43-34 in the game.
The Grenadiers travel to #9 Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday.
