
ALICE LLOYD GETS PAST IU SOUTHEAST 75-74 IN RSC OPENER
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team started strong but the offense stalled in the second half as Alice Lloyd defeated the Grenadiers 75-74 in the River States Conference opener for both teams.
The Grenadiers jumped out to a 14-2 lead to open the contest. Caleb Brown hit a pair of three-pointers to spark the Grenadier offense.
The Eagles cut the deficit to 29-23 but the Grenadiers answered back with a 10-2 run to take their largest lead of the contest at 39-25 with 5:13 left in the first half.
A Glenn Hill layup at the buzzer gave the Grenadiers a 47-36 lead at halftime. He had 13 points in the first half and Richard Lang added 12 for IU Southeast.
In the second half the Grenadier offense went cold. IU Southeast shot 33 percent from the field and was just 3-of-13 from behind-the-arc which allowed the Eagles to roar back into the contest.
Alice Lloyd cut the lead to 56-53 after a three-pointer by Bryce Slone. IU Southeast kept Alice Lloyd at arm's length and a three-pointer by Jathan Ritter extended the lead to 61-53 with just under 10 minutes to play.
A layup by Ritter gave the Grenadiers a 67-58 lead with just under five minutes to play.
After a Will Philpot three-pointer cut the lead to five, Anthony Wales Jr. hit a jumper to extend the lead to 74-67.
The Eagles scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to 74-73 and then an IU Southeast turnover gave the Eagles the ball with 10 seconds play. Will Philpot hit a jumper with seven seconds to play and the IU Southeast game-winning attempt missed at the buzzer as Alice Lloyd escaped with the win.
Glenn Hill had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead IU Southeast. Richard Lang had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Anthony Wales Jr. had 12 points and five assists, Jared Osborne had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds.
IU Southeast travels to Brescia University Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
