OSBORNE REACHES 1,000 CAREER POINTS AS GRENADIERS DEFEAT MIAMI-MIDDLETOWN 107-78
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team defeated Miami-Middletown 107-78 in a game that saw senior Jared Osborne become the 32nd player in men's program history to score 1,000 career points.
Jared Osborne scored 17 points in the contest and was one of six players to score in double digits in the 29-point victory. Ahmad Price led the team with 25 points. Glenn Hill registered a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Wales Jr. scored 10 points in a starting role and both Jaren Starks and Caleb Brown scored 11 points each off the bench.
Back-to-back Jared Osborne jumpers gave the Grenadiers an early 16-11 lead in the first half. With 8:23 left in the first half, Miami-Middletown took a 28-26 lead, but IU Southeast responded with a 10-0 run to take the lead back at 36-28. A Glenn Hill layup gave the Grenadiers a 16-point advantage, their largest lead of the first half. IU Southeast led at the half 53-37.
Glenn Hill scored 16 of his 22 points in the first half on a perfect 7-7 shooting. Jared Osborne scored 11 first half points, and Anthony Wales Jr. scored all his 10 points before halftime. The Grenadiers as a team shot 59 percent in the first half, going 23-39 from the field and 5-13 from behind the three-point line.
The second half was all IU Southeast. The Grenadiers kept their foot on the gas, leading by as many as 34 after halftime. The IU Southeast lead never fell below 16 in the second half. Ahmad Price scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half. Jaren Starks and Caleb Brown each scored eight second-half points in extended minutes.
The Grenadier bench scored 26 points in the victory over Miami-Middletown, just a game removed from a zero-point effort against Midway. As a team, the Grenadiers shot 51.9 percent against Miami-Middletown. IU Southeast hit 13 of their 31 three-point attempts and went 12-13 from the free throw line.
IU Southeast scored 30 points off 19 ThunderHawk turnovers. The Grenadiers cleaned up on the boards, winning the rebound advantage 45-30. IU Southeast grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and capitalized with 22 second-chance points.
The Grenadiers travel to conference foe Rio Grande on Monday evening.
