GRENADIERS GET PAST BRESCIA 81-78

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team withstood a fierce Brescia comeback to defeat the Bearcats 81-78 on Saturday.

Ahmad Price led IU Southeast with 22 points. Glenn Hill Jr. had 17 points and seven rebounds and Anthony Wales Jr. had 16 points in the win.

The Grenadiers (12-14, 9-5 RSC) opened the game by jumping out to a 14-3 lead after a Jared Osborne layup.

But the Bearcats pulled to within one after using an 11-1 run to get back in the contest. IU Southeast responded with a 14-6 run to take a nine-point lead. The lead would grow to 10 later in the half on a Glenn Hill three-pointer and IU Southeast would take a 34-27 lead to halftime.

The Grenadier offense was a balanced unit in the first half, led by Glenn Hill's seven points and Ahmad PriceJared Osborne and Gabriel Casillas Cruz all had six points.

Brescia quickly cut the IU Southeast lead to 36-35 just two minutes into the second half, but the Grenadiers had an answer once again.

Glenn Hill sparked the offense as he scored eight of the next 12 points for the Grenadiers as IU Southeast opened their lead back up to 10 at 48-38.

But the Bearcats would not go away. A three-pointer by Nevin Graves tied the game at 56 with nine minutes to play.

The largest lead IU Southeast would manage the rest of the way was four points but they were able to hit timely shots to keep the Bearcats out of reach.

The Bearcats finally clawed their way back into a tie with 2:25 left after two free-throws by Graves.

After Wales was fouled, he hit two free throws and Price hit a jumper to extend the Grenadier lead to 75-71 with 1:28 to play.

Price hit two more free throws to put the Grenadiers up 77-73 with 42 seconds left but a three-pointer by Jalen Rose cut the lead to one with 30 seconds left.

Anthony Wales hit a driving layup for a 79-76 lead and Price fouled Rose in a one-and-one situation to avoid a game-tying three-pointer with eight seconds left. Rose hit both free-throws and Jathan Ritter was fouled on the inbounds play.

He connected on both free-throws to put the Grenadiers up three once again. After a Brescia timeout, Nevin Graves had a chance a game-tying three-pointer from the top of the key but it missed, securing the win for IU Southeast.

IU Southeast shot 50 percent from the field in the game but just 2-of-16 from three-point 14 points off of the Bearcats miscues.

Ahmad Price had 16 points in the second to lead the Grenadiers. Anthony Wales Jr. had 12 and Glenn Hill had 10.

IU Southeast hosts RSC rival IU East Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in a "Red Out" for the Grenadiers.
