GRENADIERS HANDLE IU EAST 81-68 FOR SEVENTH STRAIGHT WIN
NEW ALBANY, In. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team defeated IU East 81-68, marking their seventh straight win.
Ahmad Price continued his hot second half of the season, leading the Grenadiers with 23 points on an efficient 10-14 shooting. Anthony Wales Jr. and Glenn Hill each scored 20 points in the contest, and Gabriel Casillas Cruz led the Grenadiers with 11 rebounds.
IU Southeast (13-14, 10-5 RSC) took an early 5-2 lead on two Jared Osborne jumpers and an Ahmad Price free throw. Neither team was able to grab a two-possession lead for much of the first half until an Ahmad Price layup put the Grenadiers up 31-26 with 3:12 left. The Grenadiers went into halftime with a 33-29 lead over IU East.
The scoring was very evenly spread for the Grenadiers in the first half. Ahmad Price scored nine first half points. Anthony Wales Jr. and Jared Osborne were right behind him with seven and six points respectively. In the first half, IU Southeast shot 41.9 percent from the field and 6-7 from the free throw line. The Grenadiers held IU East to 2-12 from behind the three-point line.
The Grenadiers were off and running in the second half, jumping out to a 19-point lead thanks to an 18-3 run after halftime. The Grenadiers led by as many as 21 in the second half. With eight minutes to go, IU East started to chip into the lead. The Red Wolves used a 12-2 run to cut the Grenadier lead to 11.
The Grenadiers answered the IU East run with a run of their own, scoring seven straight points to extend their lead to 18 and effectively end the game. The Grenadiers would go on to win 81-68, moving them to 10-5 in conference play.
IU Southeast shot 50.8 percent from the field in the game, scoring 81 points despite only connecting on two three-point baskets. The free throw line was friendly to the Grenadiers as they hit 13 of their 16 attempts.
The Grenadiers have not lost since January 20th. Of their seven straight wins, six have come in conference play. IU Southeast has now scored at least 81 points in six of their last seven games, including five straight. The Grenadiers are 8-2 in the 10 games Ahmad Price has played in.
The Grenadiers look for the season sweep of St-Mary-of-the-Woods on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
