Grenadiers Withstand Late Rally To Defeat Alice Lloyd 84-69

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team led by as many as 21 points but withstood a late surge by Alice Lloyd before defeating the Eagles 84-69 on Tuesday.

The first half was tightly contested until IU Southeast pulled away late. The Grenadiers closed the half on a 13-0 run to take a 43-30 lead at halftime.

 Anthony Wales Jr. hit two three-pointers and Caleb Brown added another to spark the rally.

 Wales had nine first-half points to lead IU Southeast.

 In the second half, IU Southeast kept Alice Lloyd from mounting a comeback for much of the final period.

 The Eagles cut the deficit to 50-37 six minutes into the second half but IU Southeast answered with timely baskets to extend the lead to 73-52 after a Christian Stewart jumper with six minutes to play.

 The Eagles found their three-point shooting stroke and began to connect from three-point range to get back in the game. Bryce Slone hit a three, followed by  a layup by Will Philpot and a three by Jacob Curry to cut the lead to 77-69 with 2:32 to play.

Jaren Starks came through with a huge three-pointer to answer for IU Southeast to push the lead back to double-figures at 80-69.

 After the Grenadiers got a defensive stop, Glenn Hill grabbed a rebound and was fouled. He hit both free throws to put the game out of reach.

 Glenn Hill and Christian Stewart each had 15 points to lead IU Southeast. Glenn Hill had 11 rebounds and Christian Stewart added six rebounds and six steals.

 Anthony Wales Jr. had 14 points and Lane Lauderbaugh had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench.

 IU Southeast committed 11 second half turnovers and were 2-of-10 from three-point range which helped the Eagles get back in the contest as they shot 5-of-12 from behind-the-arc.

 The difference in the game was capitalizing off of turnovers as IU Southeast outscored Alice Lloyd 27-12 in points off turnovers.

 The Grenadiers host WVU Tech Saturday at 3 p.m.
