Grenadiers Defeat WVU Tech 80-68 for Fifth Straight Win

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IUS men's basketball team defeated WVU Tech 80-68 on Saturday, extending their winning streak to five games.

The Grenadiers used a 12-0 run early in the first half to take a 14-7 lead and force a WVU Tech timeout. WVU Tech hit a jumper to cut the lead to 16-11, but the Grenadiers scored 14 unanswered points to take a commanding 30-11 lead.

WVU Tech hit back-to-back three to cut the Grenadiers lead to 34-22 later in the half. Another quick rally by the Golden Bears cut the lead to 38-31.

JJ Reed and Jocobi Hendricks hit back-to-back jumpers to extend the Grenadiers lead to 42-31, but a WVU Tech three cut the lead to 42-34 headed into halftime.

The Grenadiers held a 46-38 lead two minutes into the second half, but a 5-0 Golden Bears run narrowed the IU Southeast lead to three at 46-43. WVU Tech cut the lead to one at 48-47, but five straight points by the Grenadiers extended the lead back to six at 53-47.

 WVU Tech cut the lead to three once more, but a quick four points by Jaivaughn Jackson made it 57-50 IU Southeast. A three by Jaivaughn Jackson extended the Grenadiers lead to eight at 62-54.

 WVU Tech was able to cut the lead to seven on several occasions down the stretch, but IU Southeast had an answer every time. A three-point play by Christian Stewart gave the Grenadiers a 73-63 lead with 2:38 remaining.

 JJ Reed hit the dagger for IU Southeast, hitting a three to extend the Grenadier lead to 76-65 with 1:34 remaining. IU Southeast converted their free throws down the stretch, taking the contest by a final score of 80-68.

Jocobi Hendricks scored 20 points to lead the Grenadiers. Jaivaughn Jackson went 4-4 from the field, 2-2 from behind the arc and 6-6 from the free throw line in route to 16 points, all in the second half. JJ Reed scored 15 points off the bench, and Glenn Hill pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for IU Southeast.

IU Southeast moves to 13-8 overall and 8-4 in RSC play. The Grenadiers look to extend their winning streak as they travel to Brescia on Tuesday.
