
Grenadiers Fell Mighty Oaks 93-77
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team defeated Oakland City 93-77 in front of the IU Southeast community on Saturday.
Glenn Hill and Anthony Wales Jr. each had 22 points to lead IU Southeast. Christian Stewart had 13 points and eight rebounds and Jocobi Hendricks added 11 points.
IU Southeast (15-8, 10-4) fell behind 7-0 and then 13-4 before finding their offensive rhythm.
The Grenadiers used a 16-4 run to take a 20-17 lead with 9:42 to play in the first half. Anthony Wales Jr. capped off the run with a layup, followed by a steal and Jocobi Hendricks layup.
A 14-2 IU Southeast run followed as Wales hit a jump shot followed by a three-pointer and Christian Stewart made consecutive layups and a free-throw to complete the three-point play.
IU Southeast led 34-22 and took a 48-40 lead to halftime. Glenn Hill had 11 first-half points to lead IU Southeast which shot 53 percent from the field.
Oakland City came out quickly to start the second half and cut the IU Southeast lead to 48-47 90 seconds into the half.
IU Southeast had trouble pulling away until Anthony Wales Jr. came though again with a jumper and three-point field goal on consecutive possessions.
Armani Carr extended the Grenadier lead to 66-58 when he hit a three-pointer. Then Glenn Hill six of the next seven points to push the lead to 73-61 with 9:34 to play.
The Mighty Oaks cut the deficit to 73-65 but Jaivaughn Jackson answered with a jumper and Glenn Hill hit a three-pointer on the next possession.
Then the Grenadiers hit their free-throws down-the-stretch, shooting 15-of-20 in the second half.
Anthony Wales Jr. (13) and Glenn Hill (11) combined to score 24 of the Grenadiers' 45 points in the second half.
The difference in the contest was turnovers as IU Southeast forced 15 and only committed five in the game. They scored 19 points off of turnovers in the game.
The Grenadiers shot 49 percent from the field and 50 percent (7-of-14) from three-point range in the game.
IU Southeast travels to St. Mary-of-the-Woods Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
