Grenadiers Conclude Conference Play With 87-69 Win Over Midway
MIDWAY, Ky. - The IU Southeast men's basketball team withstood a late rally by Midway University before pulling away to end RSC play with a 87-69 win on Thursday.
Glenn Hill had 21 points and eight rebounds, Anthony Wales Jr. and J.J. Reed each had 14 points and Jocobi Hendricks had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Grenadiers.
With the game tied at 12, IU Southeast pulled away with a 14-0 run to take a 26-12 lead with 9:24 to play in the opening half. A J.J. Reed three pushed the lead to 12 and a layup by Jaivaughn Jackson capped off the run.
Glenn Hill hit a three to extend the lead to 40-24 and IU Southeast led 47-35 at halftime.
In the second half, Midway got back in the game with a 17-8 run that cut the Grenadier lead to 56-52 with 13 minutes to play. IU Southeast committed five turnovers during that run to help the Eagles cut into the lead.
After Wales hit two free-throws, T.J. O'Conner connected on a three to cut the lead to 58-55.
After Jackson hit two free-throws, J.J. Reed scored on the next two IU Southeast possession to push the lead back to 64-57.
A Glenn Hill jumper gave the Grenadiers a 68-59 lead but that was short-lived as O'Conner hit another three to make it a two possession game at 68-62 with nine minutes left.
Then the Grenadiers roared away and ended the game on a 19-7 run. IU Southeast forced turnovers on three-straight possessions and held the Eagles to just one shot offensively for most of that stretch to help secure the win.
Midway also shot just 8-of-16 from the line in the second half, leaving valuable points at the free-throw line.
The Grenadiers shot 54 percent from the field in the second half were 9-of-11 from the line.
IU Southeast hosts Miami-Middletown Saturday at 3 p.m. on Senior Day. The ceremony will begin at approximately 2:50 p.m.
