IU Southeast Splits Doubleheader With Huntington Thursday

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team fell 8-3 in game one of a doubleheader vs Huntington before Macie Zink's walkoff home run in game two split the doubleheader on Thursday with a 3-2 win.

In game one, IU Southeast fell behind 4-0 after two innings of play. A two-run triple by Courtney Mason made it 3-0 in the top of the first and a sacrifice fly by Mackenzie Walker tacked on the fourth run in the second inning.

Brooklyn Gibbs got the Grenadiers on the board in the bottom of the fourth when she singled to right to score Hannah Nunemaker. Hayley McFarling drove in Gibbs with a single later in the inning to cut the lead in half.

But the Foresters added a pair of runs in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh to put the game out of reach. A two-run single by MacKyndsee Burke plated the pair in the fifth.

In game two, Erin Templeman struck first for the Grenadiers as she singled to drive in Zink who had singled and stolen second.

The Grenadiers had the bases loaded with two out in the fourth as they tried to pad their lead but Katie Templeman was forced out at third to end the inning.

The Foresters (2-7) took the lead in the fifth with a two-run rally. Abigail Reed led off the inning with a solo home run to left to tie the game. After Janessa Hasty drew a walk, a RBI triple by MacKyndsea Burke put Huntington in front.

Brooklyn Gibbs came on in relief of starter Hannah Nunemaker and shut down the Forester bats to set the stage for Zink in the seventh.
