GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The IU Southeast softball team swept Georgetown 5-0 and 5-3 in eight innings on Tuesday.
Ellie Jackman opened the scoring for IU Southeast when she hit her third home run of the season, a solo shot, in the bottom of the first inning.
IU Southeast (8-11) threatened to tack on more runs in the inning after Hannah Nunemaker singled and Katie Cook walked but a strikeout ended the inning.
IU Southeast had runners on second and third with one out in the second inning but two groundouts ended the inning without bringing the runners home.
IU Southeast added a run in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
In the third, the Grenadiers put together a two-out rally to extend their lead. Katie Cook singled and stole second. Natalie Schapker singled to drive in Cook.
Ellie Jackman had a base hit to score Hayley McFarling who had singled and stole second
In the fifth, a RBI groundout by Erin Templeman knocked in Cook.
In the sixth, Ellie Jackman doubled and moved to third on Macie Zink's single. She scored when Hannah Nunemaker hit a sacrifice fly.
Starter Gabby Mahoney threw a two-hit, complete-game shutout as she worked around three IU Southeast errors. She walked a batter and struck out two.
Ellie Jackman was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Katie Cook had two hits and scored twice and Natalie Schapker and Hayley McFarling each had two hits.
In game two, Macie Zink hit a two-run home run in the third inning to give the Grenadiers a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth and the Grenadiers were not able to scratch out the go-ahead in regulation.
A three-run eighth inning put the game away for IU Southeast. Macie Zink doubled to bring in Nelson. Then Katie Cook hit a two-run home run to extend the lead. The home run was her first collegiate home run.
Hannah Nunemaker allowed one run in the bottom of the inning but shut the door for the win.
Macie Zink was 3-for-4 with two RBI in the win.
IU Southeast travels to No. 16 Marian on Thursday.
