IU Southeast Drops Doubleheader to Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. – The IU Southeast softball team fell 9-1 and 3-2 to Midway University on Friday.

In game one, the Eagles got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning but IU Southeast quickly answered in the top of the second.

Katie Cook led off with a triple and scored on a RBi single by Miranda Miller.

The Eagles (21-4, 10-1 RSC) took the lead for good when Madison Ludwig hit her first of two home runs in the game, this one was a two-run home run to left.

She added a three-run home run in the fifth to blow the game open.

Miranda Miller had two hits and an RBI in the loss.

In game two, Katie Cook gave the Grenadiers and early lead when she doubled to drive in Macie Zink from second.

But the Eagles answered in the bottom of the frame when Kennedy Thompson doubled down the left-field line to tie the game.

Cook came through once again the third inning when she doubled down the left-field line to drive in Lindsey Nelson who had reached on a single.

Carson Flynn led off the bottom the inning with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a RBI single by Thompson.

The Eagles took the lead with a two-out rally in the fifth. Ludwig reached on an error and back-to-back singles loaded the bases. A walk to Alyssa Yates brought in the go-ahead run.

Katie Cook was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Lindsey Nelson had two hits in the loss.

IU Southeast travels to Thomas More Tuesday.
