IU Southeast Sweeps Brescia Wednesday

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team swept a weekday doubleheader against Brescia on Wednesday. The Grenadiers won game one 12-2 and game two 9-4.

In game one, Brescia took advantage of an IU Southeast error to jump out in front 1-0 in the top of the first inning. A wild pitch by the Grenadiers allowed Brescia to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.

IU Southeast led off the bottom of the third with a single by Erin Templeman. Katie Templeman followed with a single, advancing pinch runner Rebecca Brosmer to second. With one out, Ellie Jackman delivered with an RBI single to narrow the deficit to 2-1. Brooklyn Gibbs brought in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Ellie Jackman scored on a wild pitch to give the Grenadiers a 3-2 lead.

The fourth inning was a massive one for the Grenadiers. Lindsey Nelson led off with a single and advanced to third on a double by Miranda Miller. Erin Templeman added an RBI single to give the Grenadiers a 4-2 lead. Katie Templeman followed with an RBI single to make it 5-2.

The big blow of the fourth inning came off the bat of leadoff hitter Ellie Jackman. With runners on second and third, Jackman launched a three-run homer to left center to break the game open. Lindsey Nelson's second single of the inning gave IU Southeast a 9-2 lead, and Miranda Miller drove in two more runs on an RBI single. Katie Templeman added one more RBI single, giving the Grenadiers a nine-run inning and a 12-2 lead.

The Grenadiers won game one 12-2 in five innings. Five Grenadiers had multiple hits in the contest. Ellie Jackman led the Grenadiers with four RBIs.

Game two saw Brescia score first once again, taking advantage of another Grenadier error to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. IU Southeast responded in the bottom of the first inning with three straight doubles to take a 2-1 lead. The Grenadiers added another run in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Hayley McFarling.

Brescia added a run in the second and third innings, tying the game 3-3. As they did in the first, the Grenadiers responded immediately. In the bottom of the fourth, Hayley McFarling drove in her second run of the day with an RBI double. The Grenadiers extended their lead to 5-3 on an Erin Templeman double.

A run in the top of the fifth inning for Brescia cut the lead to 5-4, but the Grenadiers responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 9-4. Lindsey Nelson, Hayley McFarling and Erin Templeman all drove in runs in the four-run fifth.

The Grenadiers won game two 9-4. Erin Templeman and Hayley McFarling each drove in three runs in the contest. IU Southeast moved to 20-23 overall and 14-10 in RSC play.

The Grenadiers conclude their regular season with a doubleheader against Midway on Thursday.
