Grenadiers Drop Doubleheader to Saint Francis Sunday

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team fell 6-2 and 5-4 to Saint Francis on Sunday.

In game one, the Fighting Saints scored three times each in the second and third innings to put the game out of reach.

Back-to-back RBI doubles followed by a RBI singles opened the scoring in the second inning. A three-run home run by Kara Kleinert  made it 6-0 in the third.

IU Southeast (3-3) got on the board in the bottom of the inning Autumn Oehlstrom drove in Cassi Roman with a RBI single.

The Grenadiers added another run in the fifth when Kendall Brown singled to drive in Oehlstrom and Erin Templeman was thrown out at the plate.

In game two, IU Southeast jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning when Hannah Nunemaker hit a leadoff home run, and Oehlstrom and Erin Templeman hit back-to-back home runs in the inning.

The Fighting Saints (4-0) chipped away with a RBI groundout in the fourth and a RBI double by Brittany Osborne in the fifth.

Kara Kleinert tied the game with a leadoff home run in the seventh and then Osborne hit a two-run home run later in the inning to left to put Saint Francis in front.

Autumn Oehlstrom hit her second home run of the game in the bottom of the inning as IU Southeast tried to rally and Erin Templeman followed with a single to put the tying run on.

But Kendall Brown was called out a close play to end the game on a groundout.

Autumn Oehlstrom was 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and two RBI in the loss. Hannah Nunemaker, Erin Templeman and Kendall Brown all had two hits in the loss.

IU Southeast travels to Thomas More on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
