CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – The iU Southeast softball team swept Ohio Christian 3-2 and a 8-3, extending the Grenadiers' winning streak to eight games.
The Grenadiers threatened to open the scoring in game one in the top of the fourth when Macie Zink hit a two-out triple but a flyout ended the inning.
The Trailblazers scored first when Lexi King singled to drive in Emma Hastings who had reached on an error. Later in the inning, King would score from third on a double steal.
The Grenadiers answered with a three-run sixth. Autumn Oehlstrom singled and Kendall Brown hit a one-out double to put runners on second and third.
Macie Zink drove in pinch runner Alaina Winzeler from third on a fielder's choice. Zink stole second and later scored on an error by the shortstop as Brown and Zink came in to score.
Starter Madison Wathen retired the first 11 batters she faced for the Grenadiers. The tying run got to second base with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the game.
She got the complete-game win, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out eight.
Autumn Oehlstrom had two hits and a walk in the win.
In game two, IU Southeast jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a three-run second inning when Brooklyn Gibbs cleared the bases when her fly ball to left was misplayed.
The Grenadiers added a pair of runs in the fourth when Issy Wright stole second and Brylea Bennett scored on an error. Then Wright scored on a passed ball.
Autumn Oehlstrom extended the lead to 7-1 with a two-run home run in the sixth, her eighth of the year which tied the NAIA lead.
The Trailblazers cut the lead to 7-3 with a two-run single in the sixth by Kylee Bako but Kendall Brown scored on an error in the seventh to give the Grenadiers a 8-3 lead.
Hannah Nunemaker allowed three runs on two hits. She walked two and struck out three in the win.
Autumn Oehlstrom was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Kendall Brown had two hits and scored a run.
IU Southeast hosts Midway University on April 1.
