HUGE FOURTH QUARTER PROPELS IU SOUTHEAST OVER ALICE LLOYD COLLEGE 91-72

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – A 37-point explosion in the fourth quarter led IU Southeast to a comeback victory over Alice Lloyd College 91-72 on Wednesday.

Lauren Lambdin led the Grenadiers in scoring with 26. Emmy Ralph added 19 points and seven rebounds. Karly Sweeney and Alex Maher both scored 11 in the victory, and Brynna Blackburn scored 10 off the bench. Lettie Nice had 10 rebounds in the contest.

IU Southeast (4-3, 1-0 RSC) began conference play with a hot start, jumping out in front 17-4 in the first quarter. Alice Lloyd (3-3, 0-1 RSC) would not go down easily, scoring the last 15 points of the first quarter to take a 19-17 lead going into the second.

The second quarter was a resilient one for the Grenadiers. Alice Lloyd at one point extended their lead to 10, but IU Southeast answered with an 8-0 run. Alice Lloyd led at the break 39-38.

The third quarter was much like the second. Alice Lloyd extended their lead to nine, but IU Southeast kept fighting back. An Alex Maher three-pointer narrowed the Grenadier deficit to 56-54 going into the third quarter.

The fourth quarter is where things clicked for the Grenadiers. A 9-0 run in the first two minutes of the quarter gave IU Southeast a 63-56 lead. A layup by Alice Lloyd brought the IU Southeast lead back to seven with 4:18 left, but the resilient Grenadiers remained unphased and went on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 14. IU Southeast scored the final seven points of the contest and went on to win 91-72.

IU Southeast scored 37 points in the fourth quarter, just one point shy of their entire first half point total. Lambdin led the way with 12 fourth-quarter points, and Ralph added nine. Leah Miller scored all seven of her points in the fourth. The team shot 65 percent (13-20) from the field in the fourth quarter and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the free throw line to seal the victory.

As a team, the Grenadiers shot 81.5 percent (22-27) from the free throw line. Lambdin went 9-12 and Sweeney went a perfect 7-7 from the line.

IU Southeast travels to Brescia University on Saturday.
