
GRENADIERS FALL 93-65 TO ASBURY
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to Asbury University 93-65 on Tuesday.
Lauren Lambdin led the Grenadiers with 19 points, bringing her to just a few points shy of 1000 for her decorated career. Lambdin also led the Grenadiers in assists, dishing out six dimes in the contest. Brynna Blackburn scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench. Alex Maher recorded her second straight double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
IU Southeast (9-14) opened the scoring with a three from Lauren Lambdin. An Emmy Ralph layup gave the Grenadiers a 5-4 lead, but Asbury responded with a jumper and three straight three pointers to take a 15-5 lead. Trailing 19-10, IU Southeast used a quick 5-0 run to bring the Asbury lead to just four. Asbury led 22-15 at the end of the first quarter.
For the second straight quarter, Lauren Lambdin opened the scoring with a three pointer. Asbury turned a four-point lead into a 17-point lead quickly, however, using a 13-0 run to take a commanding lead. The Grenadiers would not go down without a fight, using an 8-0 run to make it a 36-29 Asbury lead. At the half, the Eagles led 39-27.
The Asbury lead remained in double digits for the remainder of the game, rising to as many as 30 in the fourth quarter. The Grenadiers fought valiantly in the second half, but the quick hands and sharpshooting of Asbury proved to be too much. IU Southeast would fall 93-65 in the contest.
The fastbreak proved to be one of the difference makers in the game, as Asbury turned 15 Grenadier turnovers into 23 points. 13 of those 15 turnovers were steals by Asbury. The three-point shooting was also a key contributor in the Asbury win, as the Eagles hit 14 of their 34 shots from deep.
The Grenadiers stay at home to host IU East on Thursday. Fans are encouraged to wear red as part of a "Red Out" theme for the game.
