Grenadiers Erase 21-Point Second Half Deficit to Defeat Alice Lloyd 75-72 in Overtime

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team came back from 21 down to defeat Alice Lloyd 75-72 in overtime on Tuesday.

The Grenadiers found themselves down 8-2 halfway through the first quarter. The Grenadiers cut it to three at 8-5, but Alice Lloyd scored five straight to extend their lead to 13-5. Alice Lloyd led 15-8 after one.

Alice Lloyd jumped ahead 23-10 on back-to-back threes in the second quarter. The Eagles used a three-point barrage in the second quarter, going 4-5 from behind the arc. Alice Lloyd led by 17 before an Emmy Ralph three cut it to 32-18. An Alice Lloyd layup gave the Eagles a 36-20 halftime lead.

Alice Lloyd jumped ahead by 21 points at 41-20 two minutes into the third quarter. The Eagles led 46-25, but IU Southeast fought back. A 10-0 Grenadier run cut the Alice Lloyd lead to 46-35. Alice Lloyd took a 51-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

IU Southeast scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to cut the Alice Lloyd lead to six at 51-45. The Eagles scored to make it 53-45, but back-to-back threes by Brynna Blackburn and Jesse Ledgerwood brought IU Southeast within two at 53-51.

An Emmy Ralph layup tied the game at 53-53, but Alice Lloyd answered to go back up by two. The Eagles hit a three with 3:28 remaining to go up 58-53. A Sierra Graham layup and another Brynna Blackburn three knotted the score up at 58-58 with two minutes remaining.

Alice Lloyd connected on a jumper to go back up by two, but IU Southeast responded with a layup by Lauren Lambdin to tie the game at 60-60 with 20 seconds left.

An offensive rebound and putback gave the Eagles a 62-60 lead with just under four seconds remaining. Following a timeout, Lauren Lambdin drove to the basket and hit a layup to tie the game 62-62 and send the contest into overtime.

Overtime saw Alice Lloyd score the first four points, taking a 66-62 lead. Lauren Lambdin connected on two free throws and Emmy Ralph hit a layup to tie the game 66-66.

The Eagles took the lead by two once again, but an offensive rebound kick out led to Lauren Lambdin connecting on a three to give the Grenadiers a 69-68 advantage. 

Alice Lloyd once again converted on offense, taking a 70-69 lead. With 1:20 remaining, Karly Sweeney connected on two free throws following an IU Southeast steal to give the Grenadiers a 71-70 lead.

Alice Lloyd took a 72-71 lead, but Emmy Ralph connected on a jumper to put the Grenadiers ahead 73-72. Following a defensive stop, Emmy Ralph hit another jumper to give the Grenadiers a three-point advantage at 75-72.

The Eagles missed a contested three at the buzzer, and the Grenadiers secured a come-from-behind 75-72 overtime victory.

Lauren Lambdin did a little bit of everything for the Grenadiers, finishing with 26 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one steal and two blocks. Emmy Ralph scored 20 points in her return to action. Sierra Graham also filled the stat sheet for IU Southeast, finishing with seven points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block.

Alex Maher scored six points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Brynna Blackburn finished with six points, hitting two clutch threes in the fourth quarter.

IU Southeast moves to 13-7 on the year and 6-5 in conference play. The Grenadiers host WVU Tech in an RSC battle on Saturday.
