GRENADIERS SWEEP WEST VIRGINIA TECH TO OPEN RSC HOMESTAND

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team swept West Virginia Tech 25-23, 25-16, 25-18 to open a five-match homestand on Friday night.

Emilee Organ had 11 kills to lead IU Southeast, she had just one attack error on 19 attempts for a .526 attack percentage. Macy Graves added nine kills on 25 attempts.

The first set was close for much of the frame until the Grenadiers used a 5-1 run to take a 15-10 lead. Kills by Macy GravesEmilee Organ and Jennie Malone as well as blocks by Abigail Vogel and Maggie Purichia as well as Vogel and Organ helped the Grenadiers pull ahead.

But the Golden Bears railed to take a 22-21 lead. After an attack error tied the set, Organ recorded a kill to give the Grenadiers the lead. Another block by Organ and Vogel forced set point and after a Golden Bear kill prolonged the set, a kill by Organ sent the first to IU Southeast.

Organ had five kills and 1.5 blocks in the first set.

With the second set tied at 4, the Grenadiers scored 11 of the next 16 points to take a 15-9 lead.  After WVU Tech cut the lead to five, IU Southeast roared away with a 8-2 run. A kill by Graves, an attack error by Morgan Shablom and a kill by Organ forced set point for the Grenadiers. After a brief three-point run, Organ sealed the set with a kill.

Macy Graves had five kills in the set.

IU Southeast jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third set before the Golden Bears cut the deficit to 16-15.

The Grenadiers put the set away with 8-2 run to force match point. Two kills by Macy Graves and an ace from Brandy Eisenback sparked the rally.

Cate Murphy and Averee Yoder each had two aces and Brandy Eisenback had 21 assists to lead the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast hosts Rio Grande Saturday at 11 a.m.
