IU SOUTHEAST SWEEPS OAKLAND CITY 25-16, 25-18, 25-8
OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – Emilee Organ and Macy Graves each had 11 kills and the Grenadiers recorded 12 blocks in a 25-16, 25-18, 25-8 sweep of Oakland City on Thursday.
Jennie Malone had six kills and 2.5 total blocks and Maggie Purichia added five kills in the win.
IU Southeast (16-11, 11-5 RSC) jumped out to a 6-1 lead to open the match as the Grenadiers recorded blocks by Organ and Alexis Franks, an ace by Malone and a kill by Organ to spark the offense.
After the Mighty Oaks cut the lead to 10-7, IU Southeast pulled away with a 12-5 run to take a 22-12 lead. A kill by Jennie Malone forced set point and Macy Graves ended the first set with a kill.
IU Southeast opened the match by recording a .323 attack percentage in the first set.
In the second set, IU Southeast led 19-10 after a 9-3 run by the Grenadiers. IU Southeast recorded four kills, a block and an ace and were aided by three Oakland City errors to extend their advantage.
The Mighty Oaks cut the deficit to six but Organ and Purichia recorded kills on two of the final three points of the set to give the Grenadiers a two-set lead.
The Grenadiers put together a dominant third set as they opened the period by taking an 8-3 lead which resulted in an Oakland City timeout. Then the Grenadiers scored eight of the next nine points to take a 16-4 lead as they cruised to the sweep.
Macy Graves had five kills in the third set and Maggie Purichia added three in the period.
Cate Murphy had 21 assists in the match and Hannah Brown added 13. Averee Yoder led IU Southeast with three aces and Lexie Fisher had two aces and 22 digs.
IU Southeast concludes the regular season Saturday at Brescia at 1 p.m. ET.
