Grenadiers Sweep Alice Lloyd Saturday
PIPPA PASSES, Ky. – The IU Southeast volleyball team swept Alice Lloyd 25-16, 25-18, 25-20 on Saturday.
The Grenadiers, with the score tied 7-7, used a 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead in the first set. Alice Lloyd was able to cut the lead to two, but IU Southeast used a 5-0 run later in the set to extend their lead to 18-10. The Grenadiers took a 24-12 lead following an attack error, but Alice Lloyd used a 4-0 run to narrow the deficit to 24-16. An Ella Brooks kill gave the Grenadiers a 25-16 set one victory.
IU Southeast jumped out to 9-2 lead to start the second set. With the Grenadiers up 13-4, a 3-0 run cut the Alice Lloyd deficit to 13-7. The two teams traded points, but a 3-0 run helped IU Southeast take a 20-10 lead. Kills by Ella Brooks, Jessi Kramer and Alexis Franks helped IU Southeast pull away. The Grenadiers had set point at 24-15, but Alice Lloyd scored three straight points to narrow the deficit to 24-18. A kill from Abby Ruzanka gave the Grenadiers a 25-18 second set victory.
Alice Lloyd used an early 4-0 run in the third set to take a 6-4 lead. Trailing 8-5, IU Southeast scored three straight points to tie the set at 8-8. A 7-1 run later in the set propelled the Grenadiers in front 16-13. With IU Southeast ahead 19-16, Alice Lloyd used a 3-0 run of their own to tie the set at 19-19. The Grenadiers closed strong, using a 6-1 run to take the third set 25-20 and the match 3-0. Two kills by Kenzie Tingle and a kill and an ace by Maggie Purichia sealed the win for IU Southeast.
Abigail Vogel led the Grenadiers with 11 kills. Alexis Franks added nine kills and Ella Brooks had seven. Cate Murphy led IU Southeast with 16 assists and four aces. Averee Yoder, Abigail Vogel and Maggie Purichia each had two aces for IU Southeast. Lexi Striegel and Ella Brooks had one ace apiece. Averee Yoder and Ella Brooks each had 15 digs to lead the team.
The Grenadiers improved their record to 10-10 overall and 6-5 in RSC play with the victory over Alice Lloyd. IU Southeast returns home to host Midway on Tuesday.
