
Grenadiers Fall To IU Kokomo in RSC Tournament
PITTSBURGH – The IU Southeast volleyball team fell in three sets to No. 2 seed IU Kokomo 25-14, 25-13, 25-14 in the quarterfinals of the River States Conference volleyball championship on Friday.
Ella Brooks led the seventh-seeded Grenadiers with eight kills and tied for the team lead with 10 digs. Jessi Kramer had six kills and 1.5 blocks and Maggie Purichia added five kills. Cate Murphy had 14 assists in the loss.
The Cougars started quickly and jumped out to a 7-1 advantage before IU Southeast cut the lead to 10-5 after a Purichia kill.
IU Kokomo hit .375 in the first set and almost half their 32 attempts resulted in kills (15).
An Ella Brooks kill cut the lead to 16-10 but the Cougars closed the set on a 9-4 run to win it.
In the second set, a Brooks kill cut the Cougar lead to 12-8 but a quick 7-2 run by IU Kokomo put the set out of reach.
In the third set, the Cougars led 10-3 and did not look back, extending their lead to as many as 11 points.
Abigail Vogel led the Grenadiers with three blocks in her final collegiate match and Hannah Brown had seven assists in her final collegiate action.
